Although active in multiple sports including track during grade school, Tony opted to work through high school and college and began running as an adult at age 33.  While gradually working his way up in mileage and race distances, Tony hit his stride when he reached the Masters division, recording many of his pr’s in his early 40’s as he attempted to focus on the marathon.

His best marathon year came in 1999, when he ran 2:41 at Austin and 2:40 at both Grandma’s and Chicago marathons.  He recorded numerous KS Road Racing Honor Roll qualifiers at a variety of distances in all masters age groups through 50 – 54 and was the 10 mile state record holder for that age group until his 58:36 was bettered by KC Smoke teammate Keith Long.

Tony put his competitive training on hold in recent years while spending much of his time coaching high school athletes and adult runners in and around Topeka.  Having trained at VDOT for most of his career, Tony enlisted with the KC Smoke in order to reignite his racing performances as he enters the 55 – 59 age group in 2012.

While pleased with his running performances to date, Tony is proudest of his marriage of twenty two years to his wife Sharon and the accomplishments of his children; a civil engineer, an electrical engineer (currently designing the next generation Forerunner for Garmin), a cardiothoracic Physician’s Assistant, and his youngest who will start college in the fall of 2012 with the intention of attending pharmacy school.

He is especially proud of his two granddaughters, his grandson, and his next grandchild due in October 2012.
